Cheques Clear Within Hours – Starting October 2025!
Big news is on the horizon for India’s banking ecosystem! The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to transform the way cheques are cleared, reducing the waiting time from days to just a few hours. Through its upcoming “Continuous Clearing and Settlement on Realisation” reform, cheque-based transactions will soon become faster, more reliable, and customer-friendly.
What’s Changing?
Phase 1 – Effective October 4, 2025

Cheques can be presented between 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Drawee banks must confirm by 7:00 PM.

If no response is received, the cheque will be auto-approved.
Phase 2 – Effective January 3, 2026

Confirmation timeline shrinks to just 3 hours after deposit.

Once confirmed, funds must be credited within 1 hour.
